Artist Biography

Mesach Semakula is A GOD fearing person ,an Afro Pop musician, and a smart focused business man with a number of investments in Uganda and the music industry
Mesach Semakula was born in 1976 to the late Fredrick Ssewalu and Mariam Nalubega of Buwaate Village, Wakiso District in Uganda. Mesach went to Kira Primary school and later joined Wankulukuku Primary School for his primary level of Education. He then proceeded to Kampala Secondary and Kololo High schools for his Secondary Level of Education, this is where he chose to proceed with his music career. Semakula, unlike other band artists who joined music at an early stage, he never involved himself in the business too early because he always saw it as a girlish activity. The Golden Papa later picked interest in music during his Senior Two after seeing the late Umar Katumba received accolades for a great artist and student from Kololo High School. “I decided to leave school because father had stopped paying my school dues. He had even chased me away from home, that’s why I slept at Bat Valley Theatre for six months without anyone’s knowledge,” revealed Mesach. Semakula’s song Kulika Baby
Mesach Semakula started the chase for music in 1993 where he had his first trip to Kampala purposely to meet Umar Katumba who was a great artist of the time, Katumba had called for young talented artists for a youngsters’ audition to recruit in a group he was establishing called Emittos. “Being homeless and living on streets at this moment in time, I slept at Happy land Theatre in Kibuye which acted as my home for a long time but no one knew as I would sneak in at night and leave very early in the morning before anyone came in.” Mesach. At the auditions, he met Geoffrey, Fred Seruga, the late Fred Miso and Grace Sekamatte. According to him, he says the judges were not only looking for good vocalists but also dancers and dramatists. Therefore that was how he was kicked out of the competition though he made it to top 100 out of 1400 contestants. Grace Sekamatte and Geoffrey Lutaaya were selected in the final 30 candidates who were needed. The judges for that competition were the late Paulo Job Kafeero. Kato Lubwama, Charles James Senkubuge, Andrew Benon Kibuuka, Aloysius Matovu Joy, Abby Mukiibi, late Herman Basudde and Livingstone Kasozi. Unfortunately, Katumba died in an accident that same year leaving the young music aspirants to find their way into professional music. Mesach became close to Geoffrey Lutaaya during the auditions and after chasing him, they founded their first band called Gibros (Geoffrey Brothers and Sisters). They later changed to Kato Lubwama’s Diamond Productions in 1996 where they also met Mariam Ndagire. While in Kato Lubwama’s band, it said that the situation could not favour them in the band and so it sacked them abruptly. They then became penniless and later Geoffrey Lutaaya sold off his omnibus to raise money for the new band equipment. The money raised was however inadequate and so they went off the scene for closely one year. In 1999, they made a comeback with a new band called Eagles Production which stayed close to already established groups. Mesach then released his debut album Ntomedde produced from Namulondo Studios in Bweyogerere but later it was bought by HK Music Recorders Sounds at Shs700, 000. The singer continued to earn money when he released Silika Nkulojere and Sembera which were each bought at Shs2.5M and Wampangura at Shs3M. Through toils, Eagles Production Band made a presence on the airwaves in 2003 and among the songs that established it included his breakthrough song Tukwegomba Bangi. Since the song was adored greatly on the airplay so Lusini Enterprises bought it at Shs13M. And it’s from that money Mesach Semakula invested in starting up a shop that sold tapes in Old Taxi Park called Kann Records.
